TP Mazembe claimed the Democratic Republic of Congo league title on Sunday following their 2-0 win over DC Motema Pembe.
Defending champions AS V.Club were held to a goalless draw by CS Don Bosco on the same day, and now trail Mazembe by four points with just one match remaining in the Super League.
Rainford Kalaba and Cheibane Traore contributed the crucial goals for Mazembe against Motema Pembe, bringing consolation to Lamine N’diaye and his men after they were kicked out of this year’s CAF Champions League for fielding an ineligible player.
Mazembe's win came a day after the club launched its private plane which was purchased last month. An inaugural flight took some 130 people - players, staff, management and fans - from the club’s base Lubumbashi to the country’s capital Kinshasa and back, on Saturday.
Mazembe's success in their domestic league comes less than 12 months after the club made global headlines for reaching the final of the 2010 FIFA World Club Cup, where they were eventually defeated by Inter Milan.
