Ghana coach worry Banyana Banyana on All Africans Games

Assistant coach of Ghana U-20 women’s team, Ben Fokuo has expressed uneasiness after being drawn together with ‘old foes’ South Africa for the 2011 All Africa Games.

The Black Princesses were drawn in Group B alongside South Africa, Zimbabwe and rising forces, Tanzania during the draw held on Tuesday in cairo, Egypt for the continental version of the Olympic Games.

Fokou has singled out the Banyana Banyana as the toughest hurdle whilst not playing down on the abilities of Zimbabwe and Tanzania.
“We are ready for all the teams. Every team that has reached this far is eying the ultimate and we have to prepare feverishly to make a point at the tournament.
“South Africa are amongst the bigwigs of women’s football on the continent and always have a strong team. In 2007, they beat us 2-1 at the semi final and that loss remains fresh in our minds,” he told Cafonline.com after the draw.

“We don’t know much about Zimbabwe and Tanzania, and cannot afford to underrate them either. There are always surprises in such tournaments and we will not make room for any surprises.” The affable Fokuo insists the outcome of the opening match at the tournament will be crucial to their continued stay.

“The first match is always important in every tournament. We will do our best in the opener and that will guide us on.” With the absence of the Super Falcons, winners of the previous two editions; the Assistant coach believes the time is ripe for Ghana to win her first major trophy in women’s football.

“This is a perfect chance and we are hopeful that we can land the title. After beating Nigeria, the moral of the players are very high and are aiming at the ultimate.”
Ghana were bronze medalists at the last edition held in 2007 in Algiers, Algeria.

Hosts Mozambique, Cameroon, Guinea and Algeria make up Group A.
