Simba held by Red Sea

Simba Sports club were held to a barren draw by hard fighting Red Sea of Eritrea in an exciting final group game clash at the National Stadium on Sunday. Both sides gave it everything with Simba going closest when Mohamed Banka’s shot hit the outside of the post with Red Sea keeper Daniel Goitom beaten.

In the second half Simba came back with more firepower and in the 57 th minute Red Sea keeper Daniel Goitom was forced into another quality save with two feet to keep out a Derick Walulya 40 yard screamer. Red Sea’s best opportunity fell to Samwel Berhane but he failed to connect with a Fisemaye Biniam pass.

Simba’s Nassur Nassur Chollo saw his shot bounce back off the upright ten minutes from time with Red Sea keeper Goitom rooted to the same spot.

Both Red Sea and Simba have qualified for the quarter finals where Simba will play Bunamwaya from Uganda while Red Sea will meet Yanga of Tanzania.

Simba coach Moses Bassena was happy to go through to the last eight, “all the teams were difficult and qualifying for the quarter finals gives me a new lease of life. We will have to work extra hard since it is the knockout stage.”

Red Sea’s coach Efreim Tewolde was full of praise for his players saying, “I am happy we have gone through but I will have to work on my striking force to improve on the finishing touch.”
