Williamson slams Cecafa refs

Uganda coach Bobby Williamson said poor officiating had an important part in their first defeat in 17 games when they lost to Burundi on Thursday.

The Ugandans finished second in Group B at the Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup with six points from their three matches to reach the last eight of the competition in Dar Es Salaam.

"As much as we struggled with the rhythm, I will agree with the fact that we did not struggle as a unit (team)," Williamson said after the 1-0 loss.

He explained that the refereeing standards in the tournament are not impressive, as he failed to understand how the referee made questionable calls.

"I wonder why the Burundi goalkeeper had to engage himself in time wasting, yet he wasn't booked for wasting three minutes of the match," he said.

"The officiating being made in a couple of cases is not accurate and could have an effect on the results of the game."
