Kagame Castle Cup Fixtures

The Cecafa Kagame Cup Club Championship starts in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro, Tanzania, on the weekend with Dar giants Simba and Young Africans featuring in critical openers against formidable opposition.
Fans will not have to wait for the event to warm up first. In Dar on Saturday, the City giants Simba come up against Burundi’s Vital’ O while an enormous task faces Young Africans Sports Club who will take on one Africa’s top clubs, El Mereikh of Sudan on Sunday.

Council of East and Central African Football Associations Secretary General Nicholas Musonye, on Tuesday announced the draw and fixtures of the tournament at the Cecafa headquarters in Nairobi. Twelve clubs, grouped in three pools, will feature in the two-week championship which ends on July 9. The teams start arriving in Dar on Wednesday.

On Monday, Cecafa concluded a Sh9 million late sponsorship deal with Tanzania Breweries Ltd. A sponsor in Khartoum, Sudan, where the tournament had been scheduled to be hosted and financed by El Mereikh Football Club, has underwritten all airtravel expenses for all visiting teams.
President Paul Kagame, patron of the championship whose cup bears his name, willas, usual, provide the $60,000 [Sh5.4 million] prize money. And, as a latest development, SuperSport will broadcast “live”, from Day One, matches at Dar es Salaam’s National Stadium. Earlier, plans had been for “live” coverage from the quarter final stage.
“Everything is now falling in place and we expect a great tournament for the fans who will attend and for the millions throughout Africa who will be following through the thoroughly professional coverage of SuperSport,” said the Cecafa Secretary General.
